Detective Montalbano: Episode 16 - Track of Sand

Avanti!
If you're reading this, chances are you don't need a lot of back-story on the wonderful Italian program IL COMMISARRIO MONTALBANO. You already know about Detective Montalbano (Luca Zingaretti), the eccentric Sicilian police investigator who juggles crime-fighting with a personal life that can only be described as...well, involved. So let's cut to the chase and get to the episode itself.

"Track of Sand" opens, as do many episodes of this series, with Salvo Montalbano discovering a crime quite literally on his doorstep -- in this case a dead horse which has been brutally killed on the stretch of beach just behind the deck of his home in Vigata. Suspecting the horse-slaughter may be linked to underground races controlled by the Mafia, he launches an investigation which brings him into contact with the sultry equestrian Rachele Esterman and her enigmatic husband, Saverio Lo Duca, who may or may not be connected to either the Sinagra or the Guffaro Mafia clans. Certainly someone...

Montalbano!
Always great! Wonderful acting and dialogue, and beautiful sets and scenery. We hope one of these days Amazon makes all of the episodes available for instant watching.

Typical European Drama
Have to have a little sex on the side to make it worth watching, I suppose. The script goes so fast it is difficult to read the subtitles in time for the next scene. I kept having to "rewind" just to finish reading. The hero needs to wear platform shoes.
